At Safe Haven, I provide counselling and psychological services to individuals who struggle with the entire spectrum of mental health issues. If you find it hard to manage from day to day; have been feeling sad, hopeless, worried or anxious for a while; have noticed changes in your eating, sleeping and energy levels and/or find yourself having negative or unwanted thoughts, then Safe Haven is a place where you can come to find ways to alleviate these burdens. After completing therapy at Safe Haven, you will feel better able to cope with daily stresses; have a sense of purpose; feel better able to manage negative emotions; feel more connected to others; enjoy more fulfilling relationships and be better able to do and enjoy things that are important to you.
What does Therapy Look Like?
These results will be achieved via a variety of evidence-based treatments, including, but not limited to, Compassion Focused Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Gottman Relationships Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Cognitive and Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy and Interpersonal Therapy. During your first session we may talk about what you are hoping to gain from seeing me, how this will be achieved and how long this might take. Often though, you may need to just cry for the first session or be silent until you are comfortable to talk. Whatever the case, we will always go at your pace. In general, I recommend planning a minimum of 6 sessions to start with, however you may feel satisfied with 2-3 sessions or you may feel that longer term support is needed. It does not necessarily need to be all decided in the first meeting.
How Psychological Services (Therapist) Can Help You
Psychological services can provide counselling to help you address unhelpful thinking patterns and improve your coping skills, so you are better equipped to deal with life’s stresses and conflicts. As well as supporting your recovery, psychological therapies can also help you stay well by helping you learn what makes you vulnerable to poor mental health. You can find more information about different mental health issues and what they look like at https://www.mentalhealth.gov/.
We all encounter hardships throughout our lives, facing them with someone you trust is essential. I see counselling as a gentle collaboration that will move you along the path to your most purposeful self. I have worked with adults of all ages, to find and address the emotions, thoughts and behavioural patterns which block this process of discovery. I am deeply committed to helping you find ways to cope with life’s challenges in a safe, open, and non-judgemental environment. I will meet you wherever you are on your journey.
